“With the addition of Field Turf this season, we firmly believe that we have the finest playing surface in the entire state of Georgia. Our band has also been using it every week. We have a slew of Park and Rec games scheduled on it. In the spring, both our Boys and Girls Soccer programs will practice and play their games on it. Not to mention, it is also available to our PE and JROTC classes during the school day as well." “The surface is very consistent. One of our players commented the other day, ‘It is both firm and soft at the same time'. I realize that sounds like a paradox, but it is absolutely true.” “We believe that one of the real benefits to artificial turf will be the ability to use it as frequently as needed. Our field can now stand as a true "multiple use" facility. As a football program, we can practice on it daily. This saves our players a 15-minute walk to and from practice. That's 30 minutes of extra time that we gain to practice.” “Recent developments in artificial turf have led to a significantly greater product. I remember playing on several fields with the ‘old style' turf in college. It was basically green carpet over a concrete pad. Not only was it dangerous, but it wasn't a realistic playing surface either.” “Today's turf is a far cry from those days. There is an in-depth process of preparation that includes an 18-inch drainage system. In addition, there is an infill of sand and rubber that actually feels very similar to a natural grass field. Because of its overall consistency, Field Turf actually plays better than 99% of natural grass fields." “We don't have to worry about one of our players stepping in a hole or worn out section of grass.” “And on top of everything, our players can wear the same exact cleats on either surface. “One thing is the playability. You can play year-round on it. Grass wore out, so our teams could not practice on the old field all the time. The other thing is the safety. The turf has a spongy feel. Lately, the grass had become hard without rain.”
